Favorable weather conditions Thursday helped firefighters continue full suppression efforts on the Nenana Ridge Complex.
The Bonanza Creek Fire (#238) remains at an estimated 2,165 acres. Minimal fire activity was reported due to the rainfall received, however, predicted weather conditions will lead to an increase on the fire. Crews and heavy equipment made great progress installing containment lines and extinguishing hot spots throughout the fire area on Thursday in preparation for the predicted weather change.
The Goldstream Creek Fire (#270) is currently estimated at 4,265 acres but is likely to see an increase in acreage after a recon flight is flown. On Thursday, several hot spots were observed throughout the fire area. Due to these observations, the Georgia Forestry Commission Incident Management Team has reassigned crews and equipment from the Bonanza Creek Fire to the Goldstream Creek Fire. Today’s recon flight will likely lead to increased acreage due to updated mapping.
These fires have impacted roadways and rail lines in the area. Please travel with caution and watch for fire crews as smoke may impact visibility.
