The Oskawalik Fire, burning 9 miles southwest of Crooked Creek, is holding at 1,779 acres and has reached 75% containment. With fire activity decreasing, crews remain focused on securing the perimeter and mopping up interior hotspots to protect nearby cultural sites, native allotments, and structures.

Firefighters have completed gridding 50–100 feet into the fire’s interior and have mopped up smokes as far as 300 feet in. Operations on the west flank are ongoing today, with aircraft assisting in clearing remaining hotspots. Approximately 5,000 pounds of cargo have been successfully backhauled, and the Gannett Glacier crew is being demobilized to Kenai for return to their home unit in Palmer.

While fire activity has decreased, residents and visitors in the area are urged to remain cautious. Aircraft may be active overhead throughout the day, and smoke may still be visible from the fire area. Please avoid the fire zone to support firefighter safety and ensure operational efficiency
