Firefighters are focusing their efforts on the northwest portions of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire

7 Mile Lookout Fire

Size: 3,101 acres  Location: 7 miles southwest of Tok, AK.

Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 0%  Total Personnel: 91

The Southern Area Gray Team (Type 3 Incident Management Team), led by Incident Commander Mitch Ketron, assumed command of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222) and Tok River Fire (#289).

Evacuation levels for neighborhoods near the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222): Residents north of Butch Kuth Ave and on Jack Wade Rd are at READY (Level 1). Residents on Butch Kuth Ave, Osprey, Moose Nugget, and Goshawk Rd are at SET (Level 2).

Yesterday’s Activities – Another Helispot was established near the fire line for operational use and potential medical evacuations. Firefighters have been making good progress on the northwest corner, which is on the most critical part of the fire.  Four dozers continue to expand containment lines to keep the fire south of the Eagle Trail and west of the 7 Mile Access Rd. One helicopter assisted firefighters by providing bucket drops on identified hot spots.  Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are also using infrared capabilities to help identify additional hotspots.

Today’s Activities – Fire personnel will continue to focus their efforts on the northwest portion of the fire. An early afternoon helicopter reconnaissance flight is planned, and additional aviation assets are available to fire managers if needed. A task force leader will be scouting through the interior for possible dozer line construction to connect to Highway 1. Crews will also continue installing additional hose lays connecting at the northwest corner.

Tok River Fire

Size: 277 acres  Location: 10 miles south of Tok, AK.

Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 0%  Total Personnel: 9

Resources from the Southern Area Type 3 Incident Management Team will be assigned to the Tok River Fire. Efforts will be focused on the west side of the fire.

A recon flight occurred for the Tok River Fire to find access for operational and staffing needs. Targeted bucket drops are planned to address the heat on the east side of Tok River Fire.  Additional personnel including a division supervisor, task force leader, and helitack will be deploying to the fire today.

Weather – Warm with relative humidity values about 30%. North windspeeds between 4mph to 7mph. Mostly cloudy with numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms in the next couple of days is predicted.

Aircraft and Drone Restrictions – A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is still in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to grow larger.

Remember:   If you fly, we can’t.
