Firefighters hold perimeters, prioritize protection as Roundabout Complex fires remain stable

Yesterday, the Northern New Mexico Incident Management Team successfully kept all active fires in the Roundabout Complex within their established perimeters, with the total acreage remaining steady at 13,888 acres. Firefighters continue to use a full suppression strategy, focusing on point protection around critical values at risk.

Moldy Fire (#279) – The largest fire in the complex held at 11,336 acres yesterday. Today, boats and helicopters are being used to transport firefighters as they construct helispots—sites that will support the delivery of personnel and supplies for suppression efforts. The Plumas Hotshots are working on the ground today near Butch’s Cabin. Fire managers continue to assess protection strategies for Alaska Native allotments and nearby structures. This fire remains approximately eight miles southwest of Huslia.

Caribou Fire (#128) – Firefighters continue to successfully hold the 1,830-acre fire using direct tactics. The Zigzag Hotshots are actively constructing direct handline near Dry Creek to protect areas of concern around a historic mine site outside of Hogatza.

Richards Fire (#251) – Crews contained this fire earlier in the week and have since shifted their resources to other areas within the complex. However, some resources remain on site to continue mopping up and cooling hot spots.

Thanks to the dedication of hardworking firefighters, Billy Hawk (#182) and Billy Hawk 2 (#191) have not progressed and remain in monitor status.
