Personnel scouting opportunities for indirect line construction on south side of 7 Mile Lookout Fire

7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222)

Size: 3,101 acres  Location: 7 miles southwest of Tok, AK.

Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 0% Total Personnel: 91

Evacuation levels for neighborhoods near the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222): Residents north of Butch Kuth Ave and on Jack Wade Rd are at READY (Level 1). Residents on Butch Kuth Ave, Osprey, Moose Nugget, and Goshawk Rd are at SET (Level 2).

Yesterday’s Activities – Fire personnel focused their efforts on the northwest portion of the fire. A task force leader scouted through the interior for possible dozer line construction to connect to Highway 1, however no safe route was located.

Today’s Activities – The northwest corner remains a priority as it is the most critical area for the fire. If conditions are favorable, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) will be flown to assess acreage and document hotspot locations. Fire personnel will be scouting opportunities for indirect line construction on the south side of the fire.  Crews will continue installing additional hose lays connecting at the northwest corner as well as locating and suppressing hotspots.

Tok River Fire (#289)

Size: 277 acres  Location: 10 miles south of Tok, AK.

Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 34%  Total Personnel: 27

An 11-person crew from Kilauea, Hawaii (Kauai Island) has stepped in to relieve local crew, Tanana Chiefs Conference Fire Crew, to allow them to rest.  Bucket drops on the west side of Tok River Fire will continue to occur as most of the heat is on the west and northwest corner of the fire.

Weather – Rain showers and isolated thunderstorms for the day. Max temperatures 71°F, northwest winds with higher gusts and erratic wind speeds near storms. Scattered rain showers with north and northwest flow predicted in the next three days.

Aircraft and Drone Restrictions – A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is still in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to grow larger.

Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
