Crews continue to monitor the Nenana Ridge Fire Complex and prepare for increased wildfire activity
Fire activity on the Bonanza Creek (#238) and Goldstream Creek (#270) fires was steady allowing crews opportunities to establish and improve fire lines and fuel breaks.
Acreage on the Bonanza Creek Fire increased slightly to 2,623 acres due to continued dry conditions. Air resources were deployed to mitigate hot spots. Crews are heavily monitoring the southwest line of the fire where hot spots are concentrated, in addition to limited hot spots along the north side. Fire breaks have been installed along the western side of the Fire.
The Goldstream Creek Fire increased very slightly to 6,099 acres. Firefighters continue to prepare to protect structures on the southwest side of the fire and improve ATV trails for access and containment. A fire break is being installed along the entire ATV trail that runs north of the Parks Highway and along the west side of the Fire.
Monday’s weather will likely bring dry conditions, low humidity, and more wildfire activity throughout the Complex. Firefighters on both fires will continue extinguishing hot spots around the fire perimeter, while scouting for opportunities to strengthen existing fire and fuel breaks.
These fires have also impacted roadways and rail lines in the area. Please travel with caution and watch for fire crews as smoke may impact visibility.
