The Birch Lake Fire (#309) is currently burning southeast of Salcha and 4 miles northeast of Birch Lake. The fire is lightning caused, and recent mapping estimates it to be 73 acres. The fire 50% contained.

Yesterday saw no growth in the fire and minimal activity. The Mad River Hotshots and a type 2 hand crew continued mopping up around the fire. An additional type 2 hand crew will be arriving today to assist containment operations.
To ensure the safety of aerial firefighting operations and ground personnel, a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) has been established over the Birch Lake Fire. The TFR is necessary to provide a secure airspace for firefighting aircraft and to protect crews working in the area. Unauthorized aircraft, including drones, are strictly prohibited from entering the restricted airspace. Violations of the TFR can endanger lives and may result in civil or criminal penalties. Authorities urge the public to respect the flight restriction and avoid the area to support ongoing firefighting efforts.

Due to ongoing wildfire activity, Alaska State Parks has implemented several
closures and restrictions within the Northern Region. These measures are crucial
for public safety and to support ongoing firefighting efforts. At Birch Lake State Recreation Area,
The following closures are in place:
- From the outhouse south, including the public use cabin, is closed to the public.
- The outhouse, the boat launch, and other parking remain open to the public at this time.
Crews and equipment are present in and around the Birch Lake State Recreation Area. Please use caution when visiting the area.
