Today’s Activities –Heat has been detected in areas around the entire perimeter, assessed by infrared detection through daily drone flights (unmanned aerial systems (UAS)). Most of the heat remains under the duff, with smoke being visible in different areas. Crews will continue laying hose and securing the heat in the northwest corner as it remains a priority and the most critical area for the fire. The south and east section of the fire remains unstaffed, as the area is too dangerous and steep to insert fire fighters. Fire officials are carefully observing this area for future aerial operations. Once the type 2 crew from Texas arrives, the plan is for them to work direct on the southwest corner to secure the line in that area.

There has been successful advancements made throughout this fire. On the west side of the fire, the dozer line continues to make good progress. A boat is expected to arrive late today and will provide transportation for the Teakean crew from Idaho to be ferried into the east side of the river where bucket drop operations have been occurring on identified hot spots.

Weather – Today there is a 40% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Northerly winds are expected with relative humidity expected to drop to 33%. Warming and drying with low relative humidity expected mid-week and through the 4th of July weekend.
Aircraft and Drone Restrictions – A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is still in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to grow larger.
Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
