A Red Flag Warning has been issued from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm for Wednesday, July 2. Hot, dry, and windy conditions are expected across the Central and Eastern Interior. This will combine with very dry surface fuels resulting in critical fire weather conditions.

On Tuesday, fire behavior on the Lush Fire (#199) was moderate with backing, torching and wind-driven runs. There is scattered heat along the fire perimeter and the most active area on the fire yesterday was the northeast corner. Fire crews continue their mission to protect the values at risk in the area, including Native Alaska Allotments, structures and a cultural camp. Firefighters have completed indirect line construction around multiple allotments and have worked directly in allotments impacted by fire. Two helicopters assisted yesterday by dropping water on to the fire and also assisted with fire reconnaissance.
Yesterday, an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and crew arrived to the fire. They have started to orient the equipment and themselves to the fire area and will continue with this mission today. If conditions allow, the UAS may be utilized in the future with aerial ignition missions.
Today, firefighters will continue with the work of protecting values in the fire area. With the forecast Red Flag Warning, more active fire behavior is anticipated.
A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire area and may be found at: https://tinyurl.com/y866hfju. Fire managers are working to make sure the TFR has as minimal impact on the community as possible.
The Dugan Fire (#354) remains staffed with 8 smokejumpers and is located approximately 20 miles east of Manley Hot Springs. Firefighters have hose lays installed around the fire. As of yesterday evening, the fire was mopped up utilizing water approximately 10-15’ feet from the perimeter edge. Today, the firefighters will work to increase this line around the fire.
Overall, fire managers are monitoring 38 other fires in the Tanana Zone and will staff those fires if conditions warrant. For a printable version of today’s update, please CLICK HERE.
