Continued dry weather and low humidity resulted in increased wildfire activity on both the Bonanza Creek (#238) and Goldstream Creek (#270) fires yesterday. Total firefighting resources on the fires is now at 141 personnel and equipment.
Acreage on the Bonanza Creek Fire increased slightly to 2,744 acres due to continued dry conditions and spot fires persist in the southwestern flank of the Fire. Air resources have been deployed to assist ground resources with slowing the fire in order to tie into control lines. Crews are heavily monitoring the southwest line of the fire where hot spots remain and will work to tie the southwest corner into fire breaks already established across the southern and western sides.
The Goldstream Creek Fire remained at 6,099 acres. Firefighters continue their contingency structure protection activities adjacent to the southwest side of the fire. The southwest corner of the fire continues to have hot spots, but control lines are being established. Control lines are also being installed along the east side of the fire moving north. Reconnaissance along the rail line on the north of the fire continues as resources assessment needs are determined.
RED FLAG FIRE WEATHER
Wednesday’s weather will bring more dry conditions with steady and gusty winds and low humidity. This could result in more sporadic wildfire behavior, however ground and air resources are positioned to mitigate the expected increase in wildfire activity.
