RED FLAG FIRE WEATHER

Thursday’s weather will bring more dry conditions with steady and gusty winds and low humidity. This will result in more sporadic wildfire behavior, however ground and air resources are positioned to mitigate the expected increase in wildfire activity.

Continued dry weather and low humidity resulted in increased wildfire activity on both the Bonanza Creek and Goldstream Creek Fires yesterday.  The total firefighting resources on the Fires is now at 152 personnel and/or equipment.

The acreage on the Bonanza Creek Fire increased to 3,209 acres due to continued dry conditions and wind. Air resources have been deployed to assist ground resources with slowing the fire in order to tie into control lines. Crews are heavily working the southwestern flank of the fire to mitigate further spread. Structure protection is the priority for fire operations today.

The Goldstream Creek Fire increased slightly to 6,796 acres. Firefighters continue their contingency structure protection activities adjacent to the southwest side of the fire.  The southwest corner of the fire continues to have hot spots, but control lines are being established. Control lines are also being installed along the east side of the fire moving north. Reconnaissance along the rail line on the north of the fire continues as resources assessment needs are determined.
