The Birch Lake Fire (#309) is currently burning southeast of Salcha and 4 miles northeast of Birch Lake. The fire is lightning caused, 73 acres in size, and 70% contained.
Yesterday, two type 2 crews and a hotshot crew continued to make progress on containment. The perimeter of the fire has been secured and crews will work today to extinguish areas of interior heat. With the progress on the Birch Lake fire, the Mad River hotshot crew is being released to a higher priority fire. Tomorrow, Saturday, July 5, the fire will be transitioned to type 4 team.

To ensure the safety of aerial firefighting operations and ground personnel, a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) has been established over the Birch Lake Fire. The TFR is necessary to provide a secure airspace for firefighting aircraft and to protect crews working in the area. Unauthorized aircraft, including drones, are strictly prohibited from entering the restricted airspace. Violations of the TFR can endanger lives and may result in civil or criminal penalties. Authorities urge the public to respect the flight restriction and avoid the area to support ongoing firefighting efforts.
