Today’s Activities – Firefighters continue their efforts to reinforce and strengthen containment lines through direct fire suppression tactics. Two Type 2 Initial Attack (IA) crews from Texas and Oregon are actively working to contain critical heat in the southwest area of the fire. The Texas Lone Star crew is moving in from the west toward the center of the fire, while the Clackamas crew from Oregon is progressing southward. Meanwhile, the southeast corner is receiving helicopter bucket drops in areas that are inaccessible for crews. Most of the remaining heat is burning beneath the surface layer of organic material (duff), with smoke still visible in some areas.

Today’s Activities – The Kilauea crew from Hawaii, along with the tundra buggy continue to make substantial progress on the north part of the river where fire is in boggy terrain. The Teakean crew from Idaho remain on the south side of the river and have been making good headway conducting direct fire suppression efforts. Fire managers are scouting areas that have shown heat markers on the west side of the fire. A support boat will also be positioned to assist with safety needs, as the east side of the fire is extremely boggy and has difficult accessibility.

Weather – A Red Flag Warning will be in effect today from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Relative humidity is expected to drop to between 20% to 30%, with maximum temperatures around 80°F. High-pressure conditions will persist, accompanied by moderate winds, including 15 mph winds on ridgetops within the fire area.

Aircraft and Drone Restrictions – A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is still in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to grow larger.

Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
