A Red Flag Warning is in effect again today for the Bear Creek Fire and the Saint George Creek Fire, with high winds, dry fuels, and south winds increasing in the afternoon.

Saint George Creek Fire. The Saint George Creek Fire has continued to grow. There is an evacuation Level 3 “GO” around the fire area and a Level 2 “SET” east of the Wood River. Crews are protecting structures around Gold King Creek and other remote cabins.
Bear Creek Fire. Fire growth is slow on the Bear Creek Fire, with minor activity in internal pockets of vegetation and along the southeast edge of the fire. Crews continue to strengthen line on the northern end of the fire and are meticulously gridding—feeling for and extinguishing any remaining heat—on the east side of the highway.

Initial Attack. The Initial Attack Task Force responded to a report of a new fire start in black spruce near mile marker 245 on the Parks Highway at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2025. Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene and the fire was declared out at 8:50 p.m.
Preparedness Level changes. The State of Alaska is moving to Preparedness Level 5 (PL5) on Friday, July 5. PL5 is the highest level identified in the Alaska Preparedness Plan and is assigned when large fires that require incident management teams are occurring in several areas simultaneously. PL5 status means most of the initial and extended attack resources are committed to new and existing fires.
Evacuation status. The Level 3 GO evacuation area for the Saint George Creek Fire was expanded on July 3. In coordination with fire managers, the Denali Borough downgraded evacuation status for the Bear Creek Fire area. Traffic safety on the Parks Highway is requested for firefighter and public safety. Be aware of heavy equipment working along the highway. Please drive slowly for firefighter and public safety.
