The Birch Lake Fire (#309) is currently burning southeast of Salcha and 4 miles northeast of Birch Lake. The fire is lightning caused, 73 acres in size, and 70% contained.

The fire has been transitioned to a type 4 team, and the Mad River hotshot crew has been reassigned to the Nenana Ridge Complex. The Incident Command Post at the Birch Lake State Recreation Area will be relocated, and the public use closures there will be lifted at 8 am on Sunday, July 6.
To ensure the safety of aerial firefighting operations and ground personnel, a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) has been established over the Birch Lake Fire. The TFR is necessary to provide a secure airspace for firefighting aircraft and to protect crews working in the area. Unauthorized aircraft, including drones, are strictly prohibited from entering the restricted airspace. Violations of the TFR can endanger lives and may result in civil or criminal penalties. Authorities urge the public to respect the flight restriction and avoid the area to support ongoing firefighting efforts.
