7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222)
Size: 3,204 acres Location: 7 miles southwest of Tok, AK.
Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 54%
Total Personnel: 139
Evacuation levels for neighborhoods near the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222): Residents north of Butch Kuth Ave and on Jack Wade Road are at READY (Level 1). Residents on Osprey, Moose Nugget, and Goshawk Roads are at SET (Level 2).
Yesterday’s Activities: Yesterday afternoon fire activity increased within interior areas that had not previously burned resulting in increased visible smoke. About a two-acre spot fire emerged on the west side of the fire in the afternoon, but crews were able to quickly respond. Recent preparation along the 7 mile lookout access route played a key role in managing fire activity as it moved around the perimeter on the west side, helping reduce fire intensity compared to what it might have been without prior work. On the south and west edges, the fire backed downslope with occasional short upslope runs, also resulting in increased smoke.

Today’s Activities: Firefighters, supported by dozers, will continue preparing and constructing containment lines along the 7 mile lookout access route. Once conditions allow, there may be an opportunity to begin burning out unburned areas that have potential to spread. Targeted bucket drops remain focused on hotspots along the fire’s perimeter, as identified by unmanned aerial system (UAS) flights. Additional equipment is being pre-positioned to assist crews, as needed.
Tok River Fire (#289)
Size: 327 acres Location: 10 miles south of Tok, AK.
Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 62%
Total Personnel: 42
Activities – Operations continued as planned yesterday, with steady and effective progress reported. Today, the crew from Hawaii will continue efforts on the north side of the river, where the fire remains active under duff and in boggy terrain. Meanwhile, the Idaho crew will stay on the south side and continue to be transported to key vantage points. Overall, the Tok River Fire is showing consistent progress, and additional containment is expected in the coming days.
Weather – Hot and dry conditions will persist through Sunday before a cooler pattern sets in early next week. Temperatures will drop, and minimum relative humidity will rise from 35% to 55% by Monday. Today’s high is around 75°F with RH reaching 34% and west winds at 5–10 mph. Isolated thunderstorms are possible east of the fire.
Aircraft and Drone Restrictions – A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is still in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to grow larger.
Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
