The Bear Creek Fire and the Saint George Creek Fire experienced significant fire activity yesterday during Red Flag Warning conditions. Today, persistent winds from the south are expected in the morning that will decrease by the afternoon, with the potential for isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Saint George Creek Fire. The Vista Grande Hotshots completed tactical burning operations for structure protection on the northeast edge of the Saint George Creek Fire. The control line on the west side of the fire was also reinforced where conditions were safe for firefighters to work.

Bear Creek Fire. Fire activity increased on the southeast and west flanks of the Bear Creek Fire. The expansion of the fire to the west doesn’t threaten any structures and will run out of fuel as it approaches previously burned areas. A direct control line was successfully completed on the north end of the fire, which crews will continue to strengthen over the next few days. Crews completed gridding 100 feet into the burned area on the slop over and that area now shows containment line. Structure protection in the Bear Creek and June Creek areas is complete and firefighters are monitoring and patrolling those areas.
