An increase in activity on fires burning in the Salcha River corridor triggered the request for an Incident Management Team to take command of three Division of Forestry incidents. Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 1 will inbrief with DOF personnel on Wednesday, July 9th, at 12:00 PM.

The Monte Cristo Fire (#319) is 6758 acres at last report and it is located 12 miles south of river mile 48 of the Salcha River. This fire has remained unstaffed due to higher priority fires threatening communities and infrastructure in the region. It has been monitored by air and displayed intermittent runs of active fire behavior.

The Uncle Sam Creek Fire (#376) is 900 acres at last report. It is located approximately 19 miles east of Salcha. Discovered on June 22nd, helitack, scooper planes and helicopters with buckets worked the fire for the first few days. Firefighting resources assigned to this fire were reallocated to other fires last week due to higher priority fires and unsafe, inaccessible conditions for firefighters. Despite the increase in acreage, fire behavior moderated somewhat yesterday due to increased humidity and precipitation over the fire area. The fire has been monitored by air and ground.

The Ricks Creek Fire (#206) is 16,720 acres at last report. It is located approximately 60 miles east of Fairbanks. This fire has been monitored by air but remained unstaffed due to higher priority fires threatening communities and infrastructure in the region. No structures were threatened. It displayed minimal fire activity until July 6th when a large smoke column was visible from the fire.
