Fire Weather: Wednesday brought significant rainfall to the fire area, with about half an inch falling overall and up to 0.85 inches on the eastern side. Lighter precipitation of 0.1 to 0.15 inches is expected overnight into Thursday, followed by cloudy skies and warmer, drier conditions heading into the weekend, with temperatures in the mid to high 70s.

Goldstream Creek Fire (#270) Firefighters have completed their dozer lines and hose lays for structures and infrastructure in the Little Goldstream area and along the highway. Work continues clearing along the railroad right of way. Crews are strategizing where to place additional fire breaks and evaluating natural barriers on the eastern side for containment. Wednesday’s precipitation made forest roads slick and unsafe for firefighters to work in remote areas. Work was concentrated along the Parks Highway corridor extinguishing hotspots, mitigating hazardous trees and improving access to utility right of ways. Despite the rain, pockets of dry, sheltered fuels remain. No spread potential is currently predicted.
Bonanza Creek Fire (#238) Firefighters are prioritizing structure protection along the Parks Highway and focusing efforts on minimizing impacts to forest roads. Riverboats continue to access structures and allotments along the Tanana River. Heavy equipment was removed from dirt roads due to wet and muddy conditions. The White Mountain Type 2 IA Crew is working along the Parks Highway extinguishing hot spots near structures. The Midnight Sun Hotshot Crew built hose lays to prevent eastern spread.

Road Safety Firefighters and equipment remain active along the Parks Highway. Traffic patterns are changing, and speeding or passing the pilot car poses serious risk to both drivers and responders. Please drive slowly, obey flaggers, follow posted speed limits, and use extreme caution. Visit 511.alaska.gov for current road conditions.
Power Outages: Power is being restored in areas affected by the fires. GVEA personnel are working to repair damaged infrastructure and restore service where it is safe to do so.
