CURRENT STATUS:
Bear Creek Fire (#237): On Thursday, firefighters connected and strengthened firelines on the south and southeast side of the fire and extinguished smoldering hotspots near the lines. Access to the Bear Creek and Washington communities remain limited due to muddy conditions. Near the Magpie subdivision crews improved existing fuel breaks adjacent to existing dozer lines.
Saint George Creek Fire (#246): On Thursday, a hot shot crew flew to cabins on the fire’s southeast corner near Dry Creek to cut firelines and create fuel breaks around structures. Crews also improved defenses on the fire’s northeast flank near Gold King Creek. Work will continue Friday, with more line construction and structure protection efforts.
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Thursday brought higher temperatures and lower humidity, but fire behavior remained low. Light to moderate rain fell Thursday on the Saint George Fire, while the Bear Creek fire saw less rain.
Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid-80s on Sunday. The warming trend is predicted to continue through Tuesday.
EVACUATIONS
On July 9, the evacuation status for sections of the Bear Creek fire was downgraded from set to ready. The updated evacuation status applies to the following areas: Milepost 258 to the Rex Bridge (Jack Coghill Memorial) including all properties accessed by the Kobe Road, Piano Avenue, the Bear Creek Subdivision, the June Creek Subdivision, Magpie Avenue, the Rock Creek Subdivision, and the Ferry Parking Lot. Areas in READY should stay alert and monitor for evacuation status updates.
The Level 3 GO evacuation area for the Saint George Creek Fire was expanded on July 3. No changes have been made to evacuation status on the Saint George Creek Fire since then.
