Community Meeting
A community meeting will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 6:00 pm at the Tok Dog Musher’s Association (1311 Alaska Hwy, Tok, AK 99780). Fire managers will provide updates and answer questions about the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222) and the Tok River Fire (#289).
7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222)
Size: 3,841 acres Location: 7 miles southwest of Tok, AK
Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 55% Total Personnel: 93
Evacuation levels for neighborhoods near the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222): Residents north of Butch Kuth Ave and on Jack Wade Road are at READY (Level 1). Residents on Osprey, Moose Nugget, and Goshawk Roads are at SET (Level 2).
Yesterday’s Activities: Firefighters worked to secure containment lines by patrolling for hotspots and reinforcing key areas to prevent potential spread. Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) mapped heat signatures along the perimeter to help firefighters identify and target specific problem areas. Crews worked to connect the southern edge of the fire to the 7 Mile Lookout Route.
Today’s Activities: Firefighters will continue to patrol for hotspots and strengthen containment lines. Targeted suppression efforts on hotspots will be conducted thanks to the heat maps created by UAS operations yesterday. Favorable weather has significantly reduced heat along the eastern flank. The southern edge remains active, and crews are focused on connecting this section to the 7 Mile Lookout Route. Increased precipitation overnight and hard work by firefighters over the past few days will limit fire activity today. Crews are now conducting mop-up and hotspot suppression operations. On this fire and the Tok River fire, there are firefighters from Alaska, 22 additional states, and Puerto Rico aiding suppression efforts.

Tok River Fire (#289)
Size: 334 acres Location: 10 miles south of Tok, AK
Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 100% Total Personnel: 40
Activities: The Tok River Fire is at 100% containment, meaning the fire edge is not expected to grow. Crews, along with aviation support, will continue mop-up, hot-spotting, and gridding operations to work 300 feet inward from the fire perimeter.
Weather: Due to the forecasted rain, firefighters will continue to assess opportunities to improve suppression efforts.
Aircraft and Drone Restrictions: A temporary flight restriction (TFR) remains in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to grow larger.
Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
