Following two days of rain, the sun has returned over the Ninetyeight Fire (#218), bringing clearer skies and improved visibility for aerial reconnaissance. Conditions on the ground have stabilized, with minimal fire growth observed. The fire is currently smoldering and creeping with some interior heat.

Firefighting efforts have intensified yesterday with drier weather. On the southern containment line, Eldorado Hotshot Crew together with Grass Lake Fire Module are securing and strengthening the southern edge, aiming to connect the line from both ends. This marked the final shift for the Grass Lake crew, which will be replaced by the USFS Region 10 crew today. Structure protection continues on the south side of the Salcha River, with the Big River Type 2 Crew working diligently. Northern personnel remain focused on point protection for military infrastructure and are monitoring fire movement.
Today, Eldorado and USFS Region 10 crews are coordinating to strengthen firelines and reduce available fuels. Big River continues structure prep operations on the south Salcha River, while northern personnel continue to monitor fire progression.
The weather forecast indicates warmer temperatures and lower humidity levels through Friday. Light winds are expected at lower elevations, with slightly stronger gusts near ridgetops. There is a slight chance of showers on Friday afternoon and evening, though significant rainfall is unlikely.
Due to fire crews working in this area, Training Areas 315, 316, 317, and 318 in the Yukon Training Area (YTA) are closed. For public safety and the safety of fire personnel, please avoid this area until further notice.
