Four smokejumpers have responded to protect structures along the Fortymile River from a fire burning 34 miles south of Eagle. The Polly Fire (#435), located 2 miles east of milepost 108 of Taylor Highway, is burning in black spruce and exhibiting extreme fire behavior.

After receiving reports of a fire, a detection flight confirmed a new wildfire located 2 miles east of the Taylor Highway, and one and a half miles south of the Fortymile River at 5 p.m. Smokejumpers reported the fire at 15 acres but quickly spreading. It had increased to 50 upon arrival to the area.
The nearest structure lies approximately 1.5 miles to the east along the Fortymile River.
Do not stop along the highway, smoke may be visible.
