KEY MESSAGE: Additional containment was added on the northeast side of the Bear Creek Fire (#237). Fire behavior was minimal on both fires with areas of heat holding in scattered pockets along the fires edge as well as interior unburned islands.

CURRENT STATUS:
Bear Creek Fire (#237): On Friday, crews continued mopping up and securing the south and southeast sides of the fire. In the Bear Creek, June Creek, Magpie and Washington areas, as well as along the northern edge, firefighters continued mop up and gridding operations. Mop-up involves methodically checking for and extinguishing remaining heat and smoldering materials within the perimeter to prevent re-ignition.
Saint George Creek Fire (#246): On Friday, crews conducted structure protection work along the Wood River on the north side of the fire as well as around the Dry Creek cabins. Unmanned aerial systems or drones will be utilized tomorrow, supporting efforts to protect structures in and around Gold King Creek.
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
A warming and drying trend continues, with higher temperatures and lower humidity. Fire activity remains minimal, with smoldering along the perimeter. Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid-80s on Sunday and remain elevated through Tuesday.
EVACUATION AND ASSISTANCE INFORMATION
The State of Alaska is offering Individual and Family Grants (IFG) and Temporary Housing Grants (THG) through the Alaska Individual Assistance Program for those impacted by the fires. Apply between June 27–August 27, 2025.Visit: https://ready.alaska.gov/Recovery/IA, Call: 844-445-7131.
On July 9, the evacuation status for Bear Creek fire was downgraded from SET to READY. This applies to areas from Milepost 258 to the Rex Bridge (Jack Coghill Memorial) including all properties accessed by the Kobe Road, Piano Avenue, Bear Creek Subdivision, June Creek Subdivision, Magpie Avenue, Rock Creek Subdivision, and Ferry Parking Lot. Residents in READY status should remain alert and monitor for updates. For the Saint George Creek Fire, the Level 3 GO evacuation area was expanded on July 3. No changes have occurred since.
