Containment and mop up continues on the Bear Creek and Saint George Creek fires

KEY MESSAGE: Firefighters will take advantage of anticipated cooler and more humid conditions to strengthen control lines and expand mop-up operations. Scattered lightning moved through the area, but rain was isolated and may not have reached the fire. Crews remain focused on securing edges and monitoring for any interior heat or smoke.

Wet soil and cooler days have led to minimal fire activity on the Bear Creek Fire

CURRENT STATUS:

Bear Creek Fire (#237): Crews continued mop-up and securing efforts along the southern and southeastern edges of the fire, including the areas of June Creek and Bear Creek. Line construction has been completed on the southeastern flank, with containment increasing there.

Saint George Creek Fire (#246): Mop-up and gridding operations continued near structures on the eastern side of the fire along Chicken Creek and on the western flank near Gold King Creek. A newly arrived crew is working along the northern and western flanks to detect and extinguish any lingering heat as imagery from previous flights showed scattered hot spots, with crews addressing those.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR

Hot and dry conditions continued today with temperatures reaching 80°F and relative humidity in the 30% range. Lightning storms moved through the region, but rainfall was localized and did not provide meaningful moisture on the fire. Tomorrow brings a 70% chance of wetting rain and a shift toward lower temperatures. Fire behavior is expected to be low, though smoldering may continue in interior pockets.
