Fire activity remains minimal on the Bear Creek and Saint George Creek Fires

This is the final update from Northern Rockies Team 8. An Alaska Team will be taking command July 18 at 0800. The team appreciates the community’s support.

Bear Creek Fire: Fire activity remained minimal on the Bear Creek Fire and firefighters focused on backhauling equipment and preparing for remediation activities. Unmanned Aerial Systems used infrared cameras to search for hot spots on the Bear Creek Fire but found none. On July 18, Denali Borough will place dumpsters for debris removal at the following locations:  

  1. The Kennedy Drive parking area near the trailhead. 
  1. The Hoover Road at the Y intersection. 
  1. The intersection of Eisenhower Road and Hoover Road. 
  1. The Bear Creek pullout on the east side of the highway. 

Saint George Creek Fire: Firefighters engaged in gridding and searched for hot spots to protect structures on the east side of the fire and near Gold King Creek. Isolated smoke was detected within burned pockets of vegetation in the fire’s interior.

As of July 18 the Bear Creek Fire is 30,988 acres and 37% contained. The Saint George Creek Fire is 42,212 acres.137 personnel are on the incident.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR 

Little rain is predicted through Saturday, but cooler temperatures will keep fuels moist, inhibiting active fire behavior. Steady, wetting rain is expected by Sunday. Alaska remains in its fire season and the public should expect intermittent smoke in the burn areas until a season-ending rain event occurs.  

EVACUATION AND ASSISTANCE INFORMATION  

The State of Alaska is offering Individual and Family Grants (IFG) and Temporary Housing Grants (THG) through the Alaska Individual Assistance Program for those impacted by the fires. Apply between June 27–August 27, 2025. Visit: https://ready.alaska.gov/Recovery/IA  Call: 844-445-7131. 

On July 9, the evacuation status for Bear Creek fire was downgraded from SET to READY. Residents in READY status should remain alert and monitor for updates. For the Saint George Creek Fire, the Level 3 GO evacuation area was expanded on July 3. No changes have occurred since.
