Firefighters backhaul equipment and downsize personnel as operations decrease on Bear Creek and Saint George Creek fires

Key Message: This will be the final update unless significant changes occur. Evacuations and Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) on the Saint George Creek and Bear Creek Fires have been lifted. As of July 23, the fires have been transferred to a Type 4 Alaska Forestry Team lead by Incident Commander Andres Orozco. Bear Creek Fire: Suppression Repair is complete in all areas that do not depend on frozen ground for access. The fire will continue to be monitored.

Saint George Creek Fire: Crews continue backhauling equipment. Aerial reconnaissance and equipment retrieval will continue for the next several days. Intermittent smoke may still be visible in the fire area.

As of July 23, the Bear Creek Fire is 30,988 acres and 58% contained. The Saint George Creek Fire is 42,214 acres. Forty personnel are on the incident.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR

Rain showers are expected throughout the week likely reducing any remaining fire activity. This is not considered a  
season ending event and smoke may remain visible within the burn area.

EVACUATION AND ASSISTANCE INFORMATION                         

Evacuations for the Saint George Fire are lifted. The Bear Creek Fire evacuation status and TFR have also been removed. Debris Removal: Dumpster Locations as of July 18:

  1. The Kennedy Drive parking area, near the trailhead.
  2. The Hoover Road at the Y intersection.
  3. The intersection of Eisenhower Road and Hoover Road.
  4. The Bear Creek pullout on the east side of the highway.
