Tuesday, the 7 Mile Lookout Fire received an Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) flight. This benefited firefighters and incident managers by providing updated acreage and mapping for the incident. The flight also identified numerous hot spots throughout the fire area. Although these spots are not yet showing smoke, they will likely continue to build heat and rekindle until significant rainfall is received. Throughout the day, fire crews worked to extinguish hot spots on the southern side of the fire where Monday’s burnout took place. They also made great strides continuing the fuel reduction activities along the 7 Mile Lookout Rd.

Today, firefighters will continue to extinguish hot spots leftover from Monday’s burnout along the 7 Mile Lookout Rd. Firefighters have observed countless Black Spruce falling, due to their fire weakened root system, and will begin piling and burning the already downed trees.

Incident Management is still planning to conduct the large burnout operation along the North and East side of the fire. If weather conditions allow, crews will begin lighting vegetation on the remaining section of the 7 Mile Lookout Rd. and continue to the North. If the burnout goes forward, smoke will likely be visible from Tok and along the Tok Cutoff of the Glenn Highway.
