Operations:
On Saturday, gusty winds and warmer, drier weather caused fuels to dry out. However, dozer lines remain muddy and unstable. Many fire-weakened trees continue to fall, forcing crews to move back toward the 7 Mile Lookout Access Road.

Firefighters from the North Star Type 2 Crew, Pioneer Peak Hotshots, and Gannett Glacier Type 2 Initial Attack Crew are focused on safety while cutting down hazard trees and burning debris along the southern edge of the fire. This work helps widen the firebreak and strengthen containment lines.

Warm weather continues Sunday allowing crews to carry out a test fire in unburned green vegetation near the southern edge. This will help eliminate fuels and lower the chance of the fire reigniting and spreading outside the perimeter. Smoke may be visible in the area during the operation.

Recreationists and members of the public are reminded to stay out of the fire area. Trees are still falling, and hidden ash pits pose a serious risk. These pits form when moss, leaves, or squirrel caches burn deep underground. They are hard to see and can cause serious burns if stepped into.

Weather:
Highs will reach the upper 60s to low 70s with southwest winds between 8 and 12 mph and stronger gusts on ridgetops. Sunday evening will be mostly cloudy with a chance of isolated showers into Monday.

Road Advisory:
Drivers are encouraged to check current road conditions at 511.alaska.gov and use caution when traveling near the fire area.

Aircraft and Drone Restrictions:
A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) – FDC 5/4836 – remains in effect over the fire area. The public is reminded not to fly drones or other aircraft near the fire.
Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
