UPDATE 4 PM:
Aerial suppression resources, including helicopters and a retardant tanker, are actively working the #MastadonFire (#131) near S Mastodon Road in Talkeetna.
The fire is estimated at 5 acres with an 80% active perimeter and flame lengths of 5 to 15 feet. Ground crews, including Mat Su Crew, are enroute. Crews are working to contain the fire with water and retardant lines.
Please stay clear of the fire area while resources are actively working the incident.
UPDATE 2 PM:
On Wednesday, a DFFP engine patrolling the Talkeetna area spotted a column of smoke. Upon investigation, fire personnel found the #MastadonFire(#131), approximately 1 acre fire burning in grass, hardwoods, and spruce near S Mastodon Rd. A DFFP helicopter is currently on scene doing bucket work. Additionally, there are 3 engines, Pioneer Peak Hotshots, an air tanker and an air attack platform responding.
