A fire was reported Tuesday evening, May 20, north of the Yukon River, three miles east of the Dalton Highway. Currently 16 smokejumpers and a helicopter are working on the fire.
As of 2 p.m Wednesday, it is moving west towards the highway and is 1-2 miles away. The fire is burning in spruce and tundra. Firefighters feel it is possible for the fire to reach the highway sometime this afternoon or tonight. They are working to protect structures on allotments and at the pipeline river crossing area.
