Little Granite Creek prescribed fire near Sutton is postponed

Sutton, AK at Mile 64 of the Glenn Highway – The Alaska Department of Fish & Game, in coordination with the Alaska Division of Forestry, planned to ignite the Little Granite Creek prescribed fire on Sunday, May 10. However, recent moisture and weather patterns created conditions that are ‘out of prescription’ for the burn. Fire managers closely monitor humidity, temperature, wind and other factors to ensure that the prescribed burn will accomplish the objectives. In this case, where ADF&G intends to kill mature aspen in the 314 acre unit, the relative humidity and recent moisture would reduce the fire intensity needed to attain this goal. At this time, fire managers and biologists continue to monitor the conditions and expect that the weather system moving through this region now will provide adequate conditions later this week.
