Fire Information:
Overview
The Alaska Division of Forestry and The Alaska Fire Service are managing numerous fires around the Delta Junction area. Information for all the fires in the area will be managed out of the Healy Lake Incident Command Post located at the Delta High School. Fire updates will be produced and disseminated as fire activity warrants. Please contact Celeste Prescott at the number above for information on Delta area fires.
Michigan Creek, DOF: The Michigan Creek Fire started on June 17, approximately 38 miles northeast of Delta Junction. The fire is currently 9,637 with no containment. Fire activity increased yesterday due to the return of hot, dry, and windy weather. Command of the fire was transferred back to the local area on July 6. Division of Forestry personnel will continue aerial monitoring daily.
Healy Lake, DOF: The lightning-caused Healy Lake Fire started on June 16, approximately 28 miles southeast of Delta Junction. The fire has grown to 10,443 acres with 63% containment. An increase in fire activity was observed yesterday near the northwest perimeter. Command of the fire was transferred back to the local area on July 6. Forestry personnel are utilizing bucket drops from helicopters to cool hotspots as they grid accessible areas of the fire. The fire perimeter will be monitored by air daily and appropriate actions will be taken as fire activity warrants.
Blair, AFS: The Blair Fire was started by lightning on June 20 and has grown to approximately 28,000 acres with 90% containment. On July 6 the fire saw an increase in activity, especially along the south/southwest perimeter. The Unaweep Wildland Fire Module remains in place near the 5-mile Clear Creek community.
La Grande, AFS: The La Grande Fire was flown with an infrared camera on the morning of July 7. Approximately a dozen hotspots were detected within the perimeter, mostly on the southeast corner. Structure protection remains in place.
GoodPaster Valley, DOF: Forestry personnel have been flying the Good Paster Valley Fire daily. On July 7th, minimal fire activity was observed but smoke was seen from interior pockets of fuel burning. All activity was well within the perimeter.
Restrictions and Closures: The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the Healy Lake Fire was cancelled on July 6. No other TFR’s are in place for fires near Delta Junction.
