Fire Closure Lifted Statewide for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Wildlife Refuges
Individual Refuges May Impose Fire Restrictions in Response to Local Conditions
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has lifted its statewide fire restrictions for National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska. Conditions vary across the state: The interior of Alaska continues to experience hot, dry weather, while the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands are having cool, wet weather. Several interior-Alaska National Wildlife Refuges are reporting new fires or observations of fire growth. Individual Refuge Managers retain the ability to impose fire prevention orders at the local level.
Visitors to National Wildlife Refuges are required to follow safe burning practices while using an open fire. Please stay in touch with your local Wildlife Refuge office to be current on any fire activity or local restrictions that may be in effect.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service works with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
