AGGIE CREEK FIRE UPDATE
Wednesday July 15, 2015 AM

Acres: 31,885
Start Date: June 22, 2015
Cause: Lightning
Location: 30 miles NW of Fairbanks, AK
Containment: 42%
Fuels/Topography: Timber, grass/rugged terrain
Total personnel: 503

Yesterday: There was no new growth on the fire. However, the fire continued to hold heat and smolder in interior pockets of previously unburned timber. Much of the fire area also received a wetting rain. Crews continued mop-up operations of existing fire perimeter line along the Alyeska Trans-Alaska Pipeline as well as the northern and southern flanks of the fire.

Today: Fire spread potential is expected to be minimal today with smoldering throughout the fire area due to cooler temperatures, high humidity and rain showers. Crews will continue to actively mop-up all existing fire-line to the south, east, and north. New perimeter fire line will continue to be constructed along the northern flank of the fire toward Tatalina Creek to the west.

Smoke: Residual smoke from interior smoldering forest fuels may impact local areas in the Elliott Highway area. Caution is recommended.

Closure: An area closure for the White Mountain National Recreation Area is in effect. For full details on the closure please visit: https://akfireinfo.com/ The Wickersham Dome trail is also closed.
