July 26th, 2016: Watch the very first live exclusive and authorized footage of the damage to the soils and trees along a mile stretch the McHugh Lake Trail towards Rabbit Lake Trail. Chugach State Park closures remain in effect as fire crews continue to work within the burn area to secure the fireline and remove hazard trees.
Alaska Incident Management Team Public Information Officer Kale Casey narrates the piece and describes what he sees a week after a high intensity fire and heavy wind and rainfall impacted portions of this popular trail. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
As of July 27th, 2016 the McHigh Fire #541 was 778 acres in size, 35% contained, 65% confined with 162 fire personnel assigned.
