Update: 7:27 p.m. The Alaska Division of Forestry says the Montana Creek Fire is now estimated at 200 to 300 acres.
Update 6:55 p.m. Mat-Su Borough Emergency Management has issued a “Level 1: Ready” Evacuation alert for residents in the Montana Creek Area, due to the 70-acre Montana Creek Fire, east of Montana Creek Road. This is not an evacuation order, but an alert to be ready in the event an evacuation is necessary.
Update at 6:34 p.m. The Alaska Division of Forestry reports there have been no structures lost and no injuries at this time. Montana Creek Road is closed. No evacuation order has been issued; however, some residents are leaving the area voluntarily The Upper Susitna Senior Center on East Helena Drive, across from the Su Valley High School, is serving as a gathering point for those who have voluntarily evacuated.
Update at 5:52 p.m. Troopers have issued a Nixle Alert asking that motorists yield to emergency vehicles and avoid the area if possible.
Updated at 5:10 p.m. The Alaska Division of Forestry estimates the fire at 70 acres. A task force of engines and the Baker River Hotshots are en route to the fire.
Updated at 4:44 p.m. The fire was first reported at 2:53 p.m. Smokejumpers are responding.
Updated at 4:31 p.m. The Alaska Division of Forestry says the fire has grown to 30 acres It is burning approximately 2 1/2 miles east of the Parks Highway, south of the Talkeetna cutoff.

Alaska Division of Forestry and Alaska Fire Service resources are responding to a fire currently estimated at about 4 1/2 acres and growing east of Montana Creek Road. Multiple air tankers, water scooping aircraft, a helicopter and a helitack crew are responding to the fire which is off the road system. They are working to protect one structure affected by the fire.
