Firefighters’ diligent efforts are producing results. Containment on the Ninetyeight Creek Fire (#391) has increased to 30% while the acreage burned has not changed since Tuesday. The fire, near Salcha, is burning at 69-acres.
A significant change in the weather has occurred which could increase fire activity. A high pressure system arrived yesterday and will continue building over the fire resulting in a warming and drying trend.
Today fire personnel will be improving containment lines by removing vegetation that may pose a threat. They will also be gridding within the burned area by systematically traveling over an area on parallel courses or gridlines searching for heat. This is a very time consuming and labor-intensive process which often requires firefighters to work shoulder-to-shoulder and on their hands and knees.
A Temporary Flight Restriction remains in effect over the fire.
