The Ninetyeight Creek Fire (#391) burning near Salcha is now 45 percent contained. The fire is holding at 69 acres.

Firefighters are expecting a repeat of yesterday’s weather with high temperatures in the low 80s and relative humidity below 30 percent.
Since the organic layers of black spruce and hardwoods can smolder throughout the winter, extensive and thorough mop up is required. Incident leaders will continue to manage these efforts to limit the fire’s impact on military sites, private lands, and Native allotment along the Salcha River corridor.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is in effect for the area over the fire.
