Hess Creek Fire Crosses Elliott Highway

Last night the Hess Creek Fire crossed the Elliott Highway near Milepost 62 a few miles east of Livengood. Travelers heading up the Elliott and Dalton highways should be advised that heavy smoke will continue to impact the Elliott Highway as the fire backs down to the road in other areas. The Elliott Highway is still open – check current road conditions at 511.alaska.gov — but access may be delayed due to fire operations occurring in the area. Visibility may be poor at times as smoke from the fire drops into the valley. Motorists should drive slowly and cautiously with lights on, especially when firefighters and firefighting equipment are present. Additional information about the Hess Creek Fire, including maps and updates, is available at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6404.
