Take a walk on the dozer line north of the Perfect Perch neighborhood and see first hand the fire effects and how the hot shot crews mop up and patrol after a strategic firing operations. Yesterday fire crews completed the five-day firing operation to create containment lines from Murphy Dome to the Perfect Perch area and north along the dozer line in the Murphy Creek drainage to the Chatanika River. This transparent view into the operation allows you to see how the crews patiently hold the line, gridding the green for hot spots, using hose laterals to cool off hot spots and thin fuels around pockets of heat. This process goes on for days and days, and is both challenging and crucial to the overall success of the mission.
