Sit in the front seat of the aerial firefighting supervisor and see first hand the fire effects off of the dozer line north of Perfect Perch.

Yesterday fire crews completed the burn the five-day firing operation to create containment lines from Murphy Dome to the Perfect Perch area and north along the dozer line in the Murphy Creek drainage to the Chatanika River. This transparent view into the operation allows you to see how the winds out of the east (blowing to the west) allowed firefighters to make significant progress. The smoke is all blowing towards the main fire, and in these conditions spot fires to the east are unlikely unless the wind suddenly shifts. Fire personnel monitor and hold the line, using hose lays and pumps to cool the edge, while also maintaining readiness to extinguish spot fires in the “green”.
