Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation Director Ricky Gease announced today that much of Nancy Lake State Recreation Area has been re-opened to the public as a result of good progress made containing the Deshka Landing Fire.
The state recreation area near Willow was closed last week due to danger posed by the fire, which started on August 17. The fire is currently estimated at 1,395 acres and is 40 percent contained.
Most of the eastern part of the state recreation area has been opened for recreational activity. The Nancy Lake Parkway will remain closed at the Rhein Lake Public Use Cabin at approximately milepost 5 to the end of the road due to firefighting activity in the area. The South Rolly Lake Campground, as well as South Rolly Lake, North Rolly Lake and the northern half of Red Shirt Lake will remain closed until further notice. See the attached map and this public order for the amended closure boundaries.
