Live – McKinley Fire Sunday evening update with Alaska’s Incident Commander and Chief of Fire and Aviation Norm McDonald. Containment has increased again to 95% as crews continue to mop up and coordinate with excavators, mechanical feller bunchers and engine crews to stabilize the area and strengthen containment lines. Very large ash pits remain an ongoing issue for firefighters and homeowners. With changes in the weather trees will continue to easily topple over with winds as light as 5-10mph. The community meeting from today is online. The transfer of command to John Thompson’s Northern Rockies Type 2 Incident Management Team occurs September 2nd 2019 at 7:00am.

Closures: A portion of Willow Swamp (Game Management Unit 14A) is closed due to the Deshka Landing Fire. For more info, visit the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website at https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) exists over the McKinley Fire. Pilots are advised to check NOTAMS at https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.jsp before flying near the fire area.
