Arctic Circle Wayside and Arctic Circle Campground Reopen Today

The Central Yukon Field Office (AKCYD) has decided to reopen the Arctic Circle Wayside and newly upgraded Arctic Circle Campground at noon today.

Across the Dalton Highway from the Wayside and campground, the Fish Fire #319 continues to smolder and creep through birch and black spruce stands and tundra. Hotshot firefighters are utilizing hose lays to keep the perimeter secure and mop up interior hot spots.

The Nevada Type 3 Incident Management Team is also monitoring and providing point protection for values at risk on the Curky #318 (4,000 acres), Douglas #336 (2,000 acres), and Snowden #330 (26 acres) fires.

A high-pressure system will be moving into the area in the next few days, bringing hot, dry conditions and gusty winds out of the west. Fire managers will be closely monitoring for increases in fire behavior under these conditions.
