The Minto Lakes Fire (#349) continues to grow with an estimated acreage of more than 8,300 acres. A smoke inversion has prevented aircraft from flying which is delaying more accurate mapping of the fire perimeter. The June 21st lightning caused fire is burning between Washington Creek and Chatanika River, north of the Murphy Dome Road boat launch.
Fire personnel are monitoring the fire’s movement as they perform structural assessments in the Chatanika River Valley and along Washington Creek. Crews will begin assessing structures in the the Himalayan Subdivision and along Hayes Creek as the fire moves to the east. A Central Oregon Type 3 Incident Management Team is preparing to assume command of the fire on Monday, June 25, 2022.
