Type 3 Southern Area IMT assumes command of Poorman Complex near Ruby Alaska

The Type 3 Southern Area Incident Management Team assumed command of the Poorman Complex on Sunday, July 3, at 7 a.m. The incident commander is Mitch Ketron. There are 99 people assigned to the complex that consists of the Donut Fire (#335), Camp Creek Fire (#352), and Sunset Fire (#369). The team is mostly working out of Ruby, at the Merreline A. Kangus School.

  • Donut Fire (#335): Current estimated acreage is 36,661 with four Smokejumpers assigned. Firefighters are monitoring the fire’s movement and are beginning burn out operations around the nearest cabin which is approximately a ¼ mile away.
  • Camp Creek Fire (#352): Current estimated acreage is 12,831 which is slightly less than previously noted and is the result of more accurate mapping. The Baker River Hotshots and Lassen Hotshots are now assigned to the fire. Firefighters will continue to assess cabins and prep structures as needed.
  • Sunset Fire (#369): Current estimated acreage is 3,001. Firefighters are monitoring conditions after a decrease in fire activity. Structure protection has been completed around one cabin.

All three fires were lightning caused and are located in limited suppression areas of the Galena and Tanana Zones.
