Billy Creek Fire #522 Reached 100 Acres Today

Yesterday, fire crews responded to a new fire near Dot Lake. Billy Creek Fire (#522) was reported on July 8th as a lightning-caused fire. The fire is located two miles north of Dot Lake between the Alaska Highway and the Tanana River and is estimated at 100 acres.

Smokejumpers, numerous air tankers, scoopers, a helitack crew and ground firefighters responded to protect nearby structures and slow the fire spread. Crews experienced very active fire behavior yesterday, as a result of clearing skies and warm temperatures.  A red flag warning is still in effect for the area.

Today, the Arroyo Grande Hot Shot crew was inserted into the area to cut a line around the 100-acre fire. There was no aircraft in operation today due to cloud cover and light precipitation. However, air support is anticipated to operate tomorrow and bring supplies, such as fire hoses and other gear to support the firefighters.
