(Fairbanks, AK) – Beginning on July 12, 2022 at 1:00 P.M., the “Tanana Road Closure Order” is rescinded to allow motorized use of the Tanana Valley State Forest. Several logging roads had already reopened at 8:00 A.M.
The Tanana Valley State Forest remains dry, wildfires are creating smoky conditions, and fire danger is very high. The Department of Natural Resources continues to recommend motorized use only during cooler times of the day: overnight and early morning. Active fires are currently burning in the Tanana Valley, and additional fire starts would greatly strain the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection’s firefighting resources.
