At the Bean Complex, due to the remote location and travel time to the fires it takes planning two to three days of travel to bring the crews out. The number of people assigned to the fire will gradually decrease as work is completed and assignments end. On Wednesday, two 20-person fire crews packed up their field camps and were transported by boat and helicopter to Manley Hot Springs as the first step in being released from their 21-day assignment on the Bean Complex. Following an overnight stay at the camp in Manley Hot Springs, they will drive to Fairbanks to close out their time on the fire, get some food and lodging, and prepare for a flight home the next day. Fire personnel are generally committed to a 14 or 21-day fire assignment each time, followed by travel home and days off before being ready to go again.
Scattered rain moved through the region on Wednesday, but no measurable amounts were recorded over the fire area in the past 24 hours. Fire activity remains minimal, aided by high humidity recoveries at night and cooler temperatures. Weather conditions are expected to be favorable for helicopter and motorboat use on the fire over the next three days. A warm and dry trend is forecasted for the area through Saturday before another chance of rain moves in on Sunday.
